The Component Engineer is responsible for the selection, qualification, lifecycle management, and technical governance of electronic and electromechanical components used in company products. This role ensures component reliability, cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and long-term supply continuity while supporting design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
Essential Job Functions
- Evaluate, select, and approve electronic and electromechanical components (e.g., semiconductors, passives, connectors, mechanical parts).
- Support design teams with component recommendations based on performance, cost, availability, and lifecycle status.
- Conduct component qualification, validation, and risk assessments.
- Follow mitigation strategies for obsolescence, including alternates, last-time buys, and redesign recommendations.
- Maintain Approved Vendor Lists (AVL) and Approved Component Lists (ACL)
- Support sourcing strategies to ensure continuity, multi-sourcing, and cost optimization.
- Review and approve PCNs (Product Change Notices) and EOL notifications.
- Ensure components meet reliability, environmental, and regulatory requirements (e.g., RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals).
- Support failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with quality and manufacturing teams on yield, reliability, and field-return issues.
- Maintain accurate component data in PLM, ERP, and component databases.
- Create and review component specifications, datasheets, and qualification reports.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
· 1-3 years of experience in component engineering, hardware engineering, or a related technical role.
· Bilingual Spanish and fluent English.
· Strong understanding of electronic components, materials, and manufacturing processes.
· Experience with PLM/ERP systems and component databases.
· Ability to interpret datasheets, reliability data, and test reports.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with high-reliability, RF and Network products.
· Knowledge of component reliability standards and derating practices.
· Familiarity with global supply chain challenges and risk management.
· Experience working with cross-functional teams (design, quality, sourcing, manufacturing).
