Title:  Sr Staff Software Engineer

Role Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in backend development to join our engineering team. In this role, you will drive the architecture, design, development, and optimization of backend services and distributed systems built with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, web services, and databases. These systems play a critical role in managing, monitoring, and optimizing the performance of high-speed broadband delivery platforms.

You will be responsible for a wide range of software engineering activities, including:

• Analyzing business and technical requirements to design scalable backend solutions. Evaluates technologies choices discussing tradeoffs and benefits.
• Problem solution address ambiguos problems, able to define the problem and the solution.
• Developing robust, secure, and high-performance APIs and microservices.
• Maintaining and enhancing existing backend systems to ensure reliability and performance.
• Testing the solution code and contributing to automated test coverage.
• Assisting Quality Assurance Engineers with debugging, test planning, and issue resolution.
• Documenting system architecture, design decisions, implemented solutions, workarounds, and root cause analyses.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions.
• Leadership may manage and mentor other staff engineers shaping the overall engineering culture.

Required Qualifications 

• 8+ Years Hands-on experience in SW product development in a linux distributed applications environment 
• Analyze, develop, design, and maintain software for CommScope ServAssure product family 
• Minimum BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar degree program 
• Highly proficient in Java with in-depth knowledge of Spring and Spring Boot frameworks, Kafka and Kafka Stream, Web Services (REST APIs). 
• Experience leading a small group of engineers, defining tasks and provide guidance to solve the problem or assigned work.
• Experience with database design and maintenance of old records, using SQL and NoSQL database and distributed in-memory data store such as Apache Ignite or Redis. 
• Solid understanding of network programming, including Sockets, TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP and related networking protocols 
• Exposure to cloud native architecture and experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS cloud deployments and containerized applications. 
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, able to discover the issue, define the problem and tasks to solve it.
• Self-motivated with ability to work autonomus in distributed teams and keep learning.
• Great English communication skills – spoken, written, and reading.

Other skills needed: 

• Knowledge of Development lifecycle knowledge.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of development methodologies like waterfall & agile/scrum.
• Usage of GIT.
• Knowledge of JIRA/Atlassian suite or similar project management. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with design and development of large-scale distributed applications. 
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications.
• Experience with Grafana/Plutono, Solr, OpenSearch.
• Exposure to Telecom / Cable / PON network management applications.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts using Ansible to manage cloud or on-premise infrastructure.
• Intermediate Linux skills (WSL/mac/Linux distributions) & working with these environments.
