Staff Engineer, Embedded (senior technical role)

Req ID:  81866
Location:

Bangalore, Karnataka, India

In our ‘always on’ world, we believe it’s essential to have a genuine connection with the work you do.

We are looking out for Staff Engineer, Embedded to join our team based in Bangalore.

We are seeking a high-caliber Staff Embedded Software Engineer to serve as a technical lead in designing and architecting firmware for next-generation Smart RF Amplifiers, Nodes, and Remote Telemetry Modules (e.g., FDX/DOCSIS 4.0 cable access and IoT edge nodes).

In this senior technical role, you will take ownership of ARM-based MCU/MPU firmware development, operating at the bare-metal and RTOS levels. You will bridge software engineering directly with RF hardware design implementing low-level drivers for attenuators, equalizers, and AGC algorithms, leading board bring-up, and managing wireless telemetry via LoRaWAN. You will collaborate daily with US-based hardware, RF, and firmware teams to bring complex hardware platforms to life.

How You'll Help Us Connect the World:

  • ARM System Architecture & Firmware: Design, architect, and optimize low-level firmware for ARM Cortex-M / Cortex-A microcontrollers and microprocessors operating on Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS, e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr) or bare-metal environments.
  • RF Control & Signal Processing Algorithms: Implement and fine-tune dynamic software algorithms for Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Automatic Level Control (ALC), tilt compensation, digital attenuators, and equalizers in RF gain stages.
  • Hardware Co-Design & Schematics: Collaborate closely with hardware and RF design teams. Read and interpret schematics and block diagrams to guide pinouts, power domain management, and peripheral routing.
  • Low-Level Peripheral Drivers: Write robust, efficient drivers over I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO interfaces to program RF chips, sensors, power monitors, and dynamic gain stages.
  • LoRaWAN & Wireless Connectivity: Design, integrate, and maintain LoRaWAN stacks and application layers for remote, out-of-band monitoring and long-range, low-power field telemetry.
  • Board Bring-Up & Bring-Up Debugging: Lead initial board bring-up on custom prototype PCBs. Perform hardware/software co-debugging using toolchains like Keil, GDB, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and RF spectrum analyzers.
  • Memory & Performance Optimization: Architect system memory maps, write lean execution code, manage heap/stack usage, and ensure strict real-time deterministic execution.
  • Development Workflows & Tooling: Drive software quality using modern version control (Git / GitHub) and project management frameworks (Jira).

 Required Qualifications for Consideration:

  • Include demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Preferably 8+ years of total embedded software engineering experience, with a proven track record as a technical lead or Staff Engineer.
  • ARM Architecture & C/C++: Deep expertise in ARM Cortex architecture, assembly/registers, linker scripts, memory management, and advanced C and C++ programming.
  • RTOS & Bare-Metal: Expert knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, or similar) and bare-metal firmware architectures.
  • RF Hardware Control: Practical knowledge of RF concepts and components (attenuators, equalizers, power amplifiers) and hands-on implementation of AGC algorithms.
  • LoRaWAN Integration: Hands-on experience implementing LoRaWAN protocols/stacks and managing sub-GHz wireless transceiver modules.
  • Hardware Literacy & Lab Debugging: Ability to read schematics, understand component data sheets, and use hardware debugging tools (Keil, GDB, JTAG/SWD, Logic Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated capability to partner effectively with US-based software, hardware and RF engineers for co-design, board bring-up, and system validation.

You Will Excite Us If You Have:

  • Knowledge of network management and streaming telemetry protocols: SNMP, gNMI, gRPC, Protobuf, or MQTT.
  • Familiarity with CableLabs standards (DOCSIS 3.1, DOCSIS 4.0 FDX/ESD) or smart RF amplifier specifications.
  • Experience with CLI (Command Line Interface) development for on-board local field technician tools.
  • Experience designing secure bootloaders and FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) update engines over LoRaWAN or serial interfaces.
