Staff Engineer, Embedded S/W (Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer )

Req ID:  81864
Location:

Bangalore, Karnataka, India

In our ‘always on’ world, we believe it’s essential to have a genuine connection with the work you do.

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our cable access engineering team, co-developing directly with our US-based systems architects, software and hardware teams.
In this specialized role, you will design and maintain firmware for next-generation Full Duplex (FDX) Cable Amplifiers and smart RF nodes. Rather than Ethernet switching, your focus will be at the intersection of embedded Linux, Broadcom broadband SoC platforms, dynamic RF control loops (AGC, tilt, gain), and modern cable plant telemetry via gNMI, Protobuf, and MQTT.

How will you help us connect the world:
● Broadcom Cable SoC Integration: Develop low-level firmware using Broadcom SDKs tailored for Broadband/Cable Access SoCs to initialize, configure, and monitor digital/analog RF processing hardware.

● RF Control & Signal Processing: Implement embedded control loops for Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Automatic Level Control (ALC), tilt adjustment, dynamic power management, and echo cancellation in Full Duplex RF amplification stages.● Hardware Interfacing & Bus Management: Control on-board peripherals, RF attenuators, equalizers, power amplifiers, and environmental sensors over I2C, SPI, and GPIO interfaces.
● Linux Kernel & Low-Level Driver Development: Write and maintain custom Linux kernel drivers, character devices, and user-space daemons interacting directly with hardware registers and memory-mapped I/O.
● Streaming Telemetry & Remote Management: Architect modern out-of-band management and monitoring agents using gNMI (gRPC Network Management Interface), Protobuf (Protocol Buffers), JSON, and MQTT for real-time health and RF performance metrics.
● US Co-Development & Technical Collaboration: Actively participate in joint design reviews, code reviews, and architectural planning with US-based firmware, RF hardware, and systems engineering teams.
● Hardware Bring-Up & Validation: Perform board bring-up on custom Broadcom SoC evaluation boards and production amplifier hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF spectrum analyzers.

Required Qualifications:
● Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

● Experience: Preferably 5+ years of hands-on embedded software/firmware development experience in modern C and C++.

● Cable / RF Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of RF fundamentals, dynamic signal management, and Automatic Gain Control (AGC) control loops in amplified RF transmission paths (e.g., DOCSIS / Cable TV plants).

● Broadcom Broadband SoC & SDK: Hands-on experience developing with Broadcom SoCs and SDKs (broadband/RF access platforms) at the register and hardware abstraction levels.
● Embedded Linux & Bus Protocols: Deep experience with Embedded Linux driver development, Linux networking internals, and low-level peripheral buses (I2C, SPI, UART).
● Telemetry & Serialization: Practical experience implementing gNMI, Protobuf, JSON, and MQTT connectivity for dynamic device configuration and streaming telemetry.
● US Collaboration: Proven track record collaborating effectively with US-based or distributed engineering teams; excellent technical English communication skills and ability to align on US working hours.

You Will Excite Us If You Have:
● Experience with DOCSIS standards (DOCSIS 3.1 / DOCSIS 4.0 FDX / ESD) or CableLabs specifications.

● Familiarity with YANG data modeling for network device configuration.

● Hands-on experience working alongside RF engineers and using spectrum analyzers or RF power meters.
