Job Title: Staff Content Developer / Illustrator

This hybrid role combines technical writing and technical illustration to deliver high‑quality documentation that helps customers understand and successfully deploy wired and wireless networking products.

As a content developer, the individual is responsible for creating, managing, and delivering high-quality technical documentation that enables customers to effectively use and understand products. This role involves close collaboration with software developers, architects, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information and translate it into clear, concise, and user-focused content.

As a technical illustrator, the individual supports the Technical Publications team and is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate, standards‑compliant technical illustrations that help customers understand wired and wireless networking products. This role involves working closely with Technical Writers and engineering teams throughout the documentation lifecycle.

The individual plays a key role in maintaining content standards, ensuring consistency across deliverables, and contributing to improvements in documentation processes, tools, and automation. Working within a globally distributed team, the Staff Content Developer / Illustrator is expected to drive content quality, meet timelines, and support evolving business and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Proactively gather and analyze information from software developers, architects, product managers, and other domain experts on new features and upcoming product changes.
• Collaborate with geographically distributed, cross-functional teams and technical content stakeholders to ensure technical accuracy and quality of content as well as consistency in workflows, standards, and writing style.
• Research, develop, and maintain high-quality technical content aligned with customer requirements; 
• Contribute to and support initiatives related to authoring environments, documentation processes, and automation tools.
• Apply established technical writing principles, methodologies, tools, and best practices throughout the content development lifecycle.
• Deliver documentation within defined timelines, adhering to documentation development processes and quality standards.
• Support additional technical communication requirements and take on related responsibilities as needed.
• Create and maintain technical illustrations that support and enhance written content and improve customer understanding of the subject matter, including hardware designs, network topology diagrams, flowcharts and process diagrams, and conceptual illustrations explaining system behavior.
• Develop, update, and standardize screenshots, callouts, and visual annotations used in product documentation, ensuring consistency and usability.
• Create, revise, and manage icons, inline graphics, and reusable visual assets used across multiple documentation sets.
• Ensure all illustrations comply with Technical Publications visual standards, corporate branding guidelines, and output requirements (print, PDF, and HTML).

Required Qualifications for Consideration

• 8+ years of experience in developing technical/user documentation for software and hardware products, including content for print, web, and in-application help systems.
• Expertise in authoring end-user documentation such as installation guides, configuration guides, and troubleshooting guides for advanced networking features.
• Strong knowledge in networking technologies.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with DITA.
• Solid understanding of component content management, with experience in CCMS and XML-based authoring tools.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed, cross-functional teams.
• Good to have: familiarity with AI tools and techniques for technical writing, content generation, and improving documentation efficiency.
• 3+ years of professional experience creating technical illustrations for product documentation, manuals, or instructional content in a technical or engineering environment.
• Proficiency with industry‑standard illustration tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop)
• Demonstrated ability, such as portfolio, to create clear technical visuals, including diagrams, schematics, flow charts, or other instructional graphics that communicate complex technical information accurately.
• Ability to interpret technical source material, such as engineering notes, technical specifications, product descriptions, or written procedures, and translate them into accurate visual representations.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, consistency, and clarity in all written and visual deliverables.

Required Qualifications for Consideration

• 8+ years of strong experience developing technical /user documentation for software and hardware products. Experience in content development for the print, web, and help systems.
• Proven expertise in writing end-user documents such as installation guides, configuration guides, troubleshooting guides for advanced networking features.
• Excellent domain knowledge of Networking.
• At least 5 years of experience working with DITA.
• Strong understanding of component content management, knowledge of CCMS and XML authoring tools.
• Ability to work with geographically diverse multi-functional team members.
• Good to have AI skills, including experience using AI tools for technical writing, content generation, and improving documentation efficiency.

Experience working in documentation teams with strong collaboration skills with engineering and product management.
